The Department for Transport (DfT) announced this week that the government's six-month MOT extension scheme is due to end on 1st August 2020. The six month extension was originally announced back in March 2020 as the government implemented lock-down across the UK. The exemption gave any drivers with MOT tests due after March 30 to a six month extension to their MOT certificate - meaning their MOT would not be legally due until 30th September 2020.
With the lockdown now lifting and non-essential businesses allowed to reopen, the government have announced they plan to end the scheme from the 1st August. From that date, every vehicle will resume their normal MoT schedule, but vehicles with MOTs due between 30th March and 31st July 2020 will still be included in the extension.
