It’s to help with the extra costs of living with a long-term health condition or disability. It is not means-tested, or affected by earnings or savings.

If you’re awarded the higher rate mobility part of PIP, with at least 12 months left, you’re eligible to apply for the Motability Scheme.

Can I apply for PIP? 

You need to be aged between 16 and State Pension age to apply.

You need to have daily living or mobility needs and need extra help because of an illness, disability or mental health condition, to apply.

If you’ve reached State Pension age, you’ll need to apply for Attendance Allowance instead of PIP. You cannot use this for the Scheme.

It helps you with the extra costs you might have because of a disability. It isn’t means tested or affected by earnings, other income or savings.

It’s for disabled people aged between 16 and State Pension age.

If you have a letter inviting you for a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) reassessment, you cannot order a vehicle until you’ve had your PIP confirmed.

You can only make a new claim for DLA if you're claiming for a child under 16.

It’s to help you with extra costs if you live in Scotland and you have a disability that affects your everyday life.

It’s been introduced by Social Security Scotland, which is taking over disability assistance payments from the DWP for people living in Scotland.

It’s replacing Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for people living in Scotland aged between 16 years and State Pension age.

Can I get Adult Disability Payment?

Social Security began accepting new applications for Adult Disability Payment across the whole of Scotland from 29 August 2022.

It's also started to transfer some people who already receive PIP or DLA to Adult Disability Payment, and this will continue in to 2024.

You will not need to re-apply or have a new, face-to-face assessment when you are transferred.

Moving to Adult Disability Payment?

If you live in Scotland and already receive DLA or PIP, Social Security Scotland will move you to Adult Disability Payment. It’ll take over your allowance from the DWP when that happens.

Social Security Scotland started transfers in June 2022. It’ll let you know when you’re being transferred.

The amount you’re being paid will not change while you’re being transferred, you will not have to reapply for your allowance, and you will not be reassessed.

It’s to help children who live in Scotland and have a disability that affects their everyday life with extra costs. It’s replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children aged three months to 18 years old.

Can I get Child Disability Payment?

Social Security Scotland began accepting new applications for Child Disability Payment across all of Scotland from 22 November 2021.

It’s also started to transfer children and young people who are already in receipt of DLA to Child Disability Payment, and this will continue until spring 2023.

You will not need to re-apply or have a new, face-to-face assessment.

What’s the difference between Child Disability Payment and Adult Disability Payment?

Children in Scotland who are awarded Child Disability Payment can keep this allowance up to the age of 18.

This is different to the rest of the UK, where child DLA stops at 16, then children can apply for Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

Children receiving DLA in Scotland who are coming up to their 16th birthday will stay on DLA until Social Security Scotland transfers them on to Child Disability Payment, or they can apply for Adult Disability Payment.

It helps you with any extra mobility costs you might have because of a disability caused by military service.

It’s provided by Veterans UK, and if you receive it, you’re eligible to join the Motability Scheme.

Can I get WPMS?

So you know, you cannot receive WPMS if you already receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).

This is for service personnel and veterans who have been seriously injured in service on or after 6 April 2005.

It’s extra money to cover any costs you might have because of your injury.

Can I get AFIP?

You can apply for the Motability Scheme if you have at least 12 months left on your allowance.

You might be able to claim AFIP if you’ve been seriously injured as a service personnel or in the armed forces.

You might be eligible for AFIP if:

You were injured on or after 6 April 2005, and

You're entitled to a Guaranteed Income Payment of 50% or higher through the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.

If you’re eligible for AFIP, you do not need an initial or future assessment, and you’ll keep receiving payments throughout your life. It is not means-tested or affected by earnings, other income or savings.

You cannot get AFIP if you already receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS).
