Electric Vehicles Plug-in-Hybrid (or PHEV) Plug-in (or sometimes called PHEV) cars are half way between a hybrid and 100% electric vehicle. Combining both battery and fuel engines, the Plug-In hybrids rely on the battery for short trips – ideal for short commuters. The Plug-In hybrid will require charging like a regular EV – with the option to switch to your fuel reserves if your battery is low or depleted.

Can I really save much money with an electric/hybrid vehicle?

      Close
Short answer, yes. The typical costs of charging an electric vehicle at home are around 1/5th of petrol/diesel. So for every £10 you normally spend on Petrol, instead you'd be spending £2-3 on electric.

Sure there’s no fuel costs, but don’t I still have to pay for the electricity at home or a charge point?

      Close

Yes, you do. But the cost is much less than you were previously paying for Petrol. We'd recommend that you check your home electricity tariff, and consider switching to one which gives cheaper off-peak rates for charging your electric vehicle overnight. Public chargers vary in cost, but still the cost is less per mile than Petrol.
