The Nissan NV400 tipper is a factory fit conversion that is carried out to the highest standards at the vehicle manufacturing plant in France. The Nissan NV400 tipper is powered by a strong and durable 2.3-litre engine and is available as both a single or double cab.
The cab environment may be a little bland when it comes to design, but there is no questioning its comfort and usability. There are plenty of storage spaces dotted around the cab, including a large, five-litre glove compartment, a double overhead parcel shelf and practical pockets in the door panels, which can accommodated two-litre bottles.
Even by large van standards, the seating position is high which provides great all-round vision. Single cab versions have three seats, while double cab versions can accommodate up to seven passengers.
Base models (the ‘E’ grade) come with electronically-adjustable door mirrors, a full solid bulkhead, remote control central locking, electric windows and radio with USB, Bluetooth and auxiliary connectivity and ‘SE’ models get a trip computer and cruise control.
Single cab variants of the Nissan NV400 tipper have an option of two load lengths. Short-wheelbase versions have a load length of 3,205mm, while long-wheelbase versions are measured at 3,180mm because they have a storage compartment for expensive tools and equipment. There is a standard load width of 2,100mm and side wall height of 400mm.
In terms of weights, the Nissan NV400 tipper single cab has a payload of between 804kg and 1,194kg, depending on wheelbase and whether it is front or rear wheel drive. The tipper body tilts to 45-degrees on all models.
The extra row of seats on the Nissan NV400 double cab doesn’t have an effect on the load length, as the longer wheelbase compensates for the loss. The load area is also 3,280mm, 2,100mm wide and the side walls are 700mm high.
There are, however, differences in weights. Payloads vary between 844kg and 1,065kg on the 3.5t variants and this extends up to 1,745kg on 4.5t variants, although a tachograph is mandatory for the heavy duty models.
A 2.3-litre unit, developed with alliance partner Renault, is the chosen power plant for the Nissan NV400 tipper. The engine has been developed specifically for commercial vehicle applications, and even powers the Nissan Navara.
Only two of the Nissan NV400 panel van’s power ratings are available on tipper models; the 130hp/340Nm and 145hp/360Nm. Both ratings are Euro-6 compliant and are mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The Nissan NV400 tipper also makes great financial sense, too. The fuel-efficient 2.3-litre engine offers a combined fuel economy of up to 40.9mpg, according to official NEDC figures. There are also long service intervals of two years or 40,000 miles and it is backed by Nissan’s respectable five years or 100,000 mile commercial vehicle warranty.
