Nissan NT400 review

The Nissan NT400 is a light truck offered by Nissan, and is available as a dropside, tipper or box van. The Nissan NT400 comes in a variety of configurations, including three wheelbases, single or double cab, single or twin rear wheel and all Euro 6 versions of the Nissan NT400 are powered by a 3-litre engine.

Cab and interior

The flat nose design and high seating position of the Nissan NT400 provides excellent all-round visibility. The NT400 has one of the most spacious cabs in its class, and can accommodate the driver and up to five passengers in double cab form (single cab models have three front seats).

There is just one standard trim level on the Nissan NT400 which includes keyless entry, front fog lights, electric windows, a trip computer and a CD/radio player with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Features like air conditioning, satellite navigation and rear parking cameras are available as optional extras.

Nissan NT400 tipper

Alongside the dropside, the Nissan NT400 tipper is the most popular conversion. The body is manufactured by Scattolini, which is one of Europe’s largest bodybuilders, and is fitted to chassis cabs just outside the vehicle’s factory in Spain. It is available as a one-way or three-way electro-hydraulic tipper, and there is the option of a mechanical PTO and a 1.15m cubic metre tool box.

The load area measures 3,150mm on the short wheelbase, single cab and 3,500mm on the medium wheelbase, single cab.

Nissan NT400 payload

One of the biggest advantages of the NT400 is its low kerbweight, which means it is available to carry a lot more than most other 3.5t vans. The kerbweight of the chassis without a body varies between around 1,700kg and 1,850kg, depending on the wheelbase, which provides a payload of up to 1,480kg on the standard 3.5t dropside and around 1,400kg on the 3.5t tipper although 4.5t derivatives are available.

Engine and driveline

The 2.5-litre engine was dropped in 2016, which leaves the Euro 6 compliant 3-litre unit as the sole engine option. There are two power ratings; a 130hp/300Nm and a 150hp/350Nm, both of which are mated to a six speed manual transmission.

Cost of ownership

According the official NEDC figures, the NT400 will achieve around 35mpg on the combined cycle. The residual values for this kind of vehicle are very high and the service intervals are set at a lengthy 25,000 miles or two years. Like the rest of the Nissan light commercial vehicle range, there is a full manufacturers’ warranty for five years or 100,000 miles.

The Nissan NT400 is a tough and durable vehicle that combines fantastic practicality with low running costs, which makes it the ideal workhorse. Chorley Nissan has a wide range of Nissan NT400s in stock with fantastic offers. Get in touch with our team today to arrange a test drive.
