What affects your car’s valuation?
There are several factors that would change how much your car is worth. Understanding these can help you decide when to sell and what to expect when you come to sell you car.
Mileage: Generally speaking, lower mileage cars are worth more, as they tend to have less wear and tear but the average annual mileage in the UK is often used as a benchmark. If your car is below the average miles for its age, it may help with increasing the value of your car.
Age and model: When it comes to age, the newer models typically hold a higher value, especially if they represent the latest design or technology which is more appealing for new drivers.
Service history: When it comes to the histroy of the car you want to value, a complete, well-documented service history reassures buyers that the car has been properly looked after. Regular services, stamped service books, and invoices of any changes you have had done to the car from reputable (reliable) garages all help protect your car’s value.
Condition (inside and out):
- Exterior: Bodywork, paint, tyres, and lights
- Interior: Seats, trim, dashboard, tech features
- Mechanical: Engine performance, gearbox, brakes, and suspension
Fixing minor cosmetic issues or staying on top of maintenance can make a noticeable difference to the valuation.
Optional extras and specification: Higher trim levels and extras can improve your car’s value. Some features such as upgraded infotainment, advanced driver assistance systems, leather upholstery, alloy wheels, parking cameras and sensors, or special paintwork can increase/effect the value of your car.
