PHEV Vehicles Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) Plug-In Hybrids, also known by the name PHEV, and vehicles that are a cross between EV & combustion engine cars. They give you the best of both worlds by providing the power of an engine, whilst also reducing your carbon emissions and saving you money on fuel by using electric energy to power short trips.
Mild Hybrid Vehicles (MHEV) Mild-Hybrid vehicles combine both combustion engines and battery power to provide you with a more responsive and fuel saving drive. You'll typically find a 48V system in these vehicles which helps supply power under certain conditions like when you're pulling away quickly at a roundabout, helping to take the load off the engine and save you fuel.

Can I really save much money with an electric/hybrid vehicle?

    Close
Short answer, yes. The typical costs of charging an electric vehicle at home are around 1/5th of petrol/diesel. So for every £10 you normally spend on Petrol, instead you'd be spending £2-3 on electric.

Sure there’s no fuel costs, but don’t I still have to pay for the electricity at home or a charge point?

    Close

Yes, you do. But the cost is much less than you were previously paying for Petrol. We'd recommend that you check your home electricity tariff, and consider switching to one which gives cheaper off-peak rates for charging your electric vehicle overnight. Public chargers vary in cost, but still the cost is less per mile than Petrol.

How long does it take to change an EV?

    Close

This is depending on many factors such as vehicle charging capabilities and charging port output. Most Ev's fully charge overnight, which is amazing if you're charging you vehicle at home. A public rapid charging port can charge most EV's from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes.

Where can I charge my EV?

    Close

You can charge your electric car in the comfort of your own home if you have a electric wallbox charger. If you are on the go, you can use the numerous electric charging points all around the UK. In the UK there are more than 30,000 public charge point connectors at over 12,000 locations which allows you to charge your vehicle quickly on the go and these numbers go up every year!

What is the range of an EV?

    Close

A single charge range of a EV is dependant on the make and model. Alot of the modern EV's have a range that suits most people's daily journeys comfortably. Most EV's have rapid charging which means that you can charge your car quickly to keep you on the go.

What is the maintenance costs of an EV?

    Close

Great news! EV's have a lower maintenance cost. This is due to EV's usual car parts like a gearbox, clutch, starter motor, exhaust and more. With EV's having regenerative braking, the brakes have less wear and tear which increases the time until they need to be changed.

Can you be towed or tow in a EV?

    Close

Yes and No! You can be towed if you have run out of charge or broken down but this isnt advised due to the battery and motor could be damaged, reducing its lifespan. On the subject of towing in a EV, only some makes and models such as the Nissan ARIYA have this capability but this may change in the future.
